STEP BY STEP
Our goals for these screenings are:
- To inspire the public by revealing the culture of peace that
already exists
- Encourage further public engagement in peace building activities
- resources will be available on our website
How to host a public screening:
We will be providing software in early August to help promote
and facilitate screenings and house parities. in the meanwhile:
- Find a venue for your screening
- Post
your event online and use the software to start inviting people
- Obtain a copy of the movie Gandhi.
You can purchase a DVD right from our website. If you are
screening a 35mm print this should be ordered from SWANK.
- Rent a movie screen and a DVD projector
- Clear the copyright for viewing Gandhi
with SWANK
(costs vary per venue and start at $100). Our understandin is
that licensing fees are legally required whether you are charging
admission for your event or not. The only exception we are aware
of is if you are hosting a screening in your home. Please check
with SWANK
directly to be clear.
- DOWNLOAD
a copy of the short film - Satyagraha: 100 Years of Nonviolence,
featuring Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. This can be
shown before the feature Gandhi. Please
Note: This version is 130mb. Anticipate a download time
of about 1-2 hours. You'll need Windows Media Player and a PC
(it doesn't work on a Mac yet). We're working on other formats
to accomodate more people, but in
the meanwhile feel free to download this to screen at your 100
Years of Nonviolence events if you are able.
- Invite speakers you might like to have before
or after the event (this is entirely up to you). If you would
like to have someone speak about the Department of Peace, send
us an email and we'll
do our best to assist you.
- Send out invitations approximately 4 weeks
in advance and invite 25% more people than you hope to attend
- we will be making software available to help facilitate this.
- Make use of any of our resources such as Discussion
Guide (available soon) or Education
Guide
- Encourage each attendee to commit to take one
action as an Ambassador of Peace. For ideas,
see upcoming events or organizations
to join or support.
- Make a donation in support of 100 Years
of Nonviolence to New Yorkers for
a Department of Peace if you are moved to do so.
